Small scale systems are closely related to Off grid systems and may also contain wind, solar and or hydro generation systems. Commonly found in smaller environments, cabins, caravan, boats, RV or camping, and may also include power systems to run remote applications, gates, lights and communications equipment.

These systems are designed to supply short to long term energy requirements in situations where no mains supply is available or practical to install.
